2017 AUSTRALIAN TEAM

  • Team members, Russell Short (V) and Angie Ballard (N) are on their eighth and seventh teams respectively and have now representative at the most ever teams for men and women.
  • Russell Short (V) is a legend of the IPC World Championships. He has competed in every F12/13 shot since the inaugural championships (in 1994) and won six medals including, including two gold.
  • Angie Ballard (N) first competed as a 16-year-old in 1998, now 35 she is competing in her sixth world championships in a career which has included five Paralympics and two Commonwealth Games.
  • Aged 16 years, Isis Holt is the youngest member of the team.

  • Fred Periac (coach) – Paralympian
  • Phil Saunders (coach) – Australian Championships 1500m finalist
  • John Eden (coach) – IPC World champion and 4-time Paralympian (throws)
  • Bre Clement (coach) – Australian Championships hammer throw finalist
  • Hamish MacDonald (coach) – Paralympic & IPC World champion and 6-time Paralympian (shot)

CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • This is the eighth edition of the IPC World Athletics Championships, first held in 1994.
  • This is the inaugural occasion the IPC and IAAF World Athletics Championships will be held consecutively at the same venue, similar to the Olympics and Paralympics.
  • Angie Ballard, with 10 medals, is on target to equal her former coach Louise Sauvage on a record 13 medals.
