Para Athletes Win 2017 CBR SPORT Awards

Congratulations are extended to Jayden Sawyer and Cameron Crombie who both won prestigious awards at the 2017 CBR SPORT Awards function held at the National Arboretum on Friday night.

Both athletes were recognised for their outstanding performances at the World Para Athletics Championships held in London in July.

Jayden won the ‘Para Sport Athlete of the Year’ award beating a hot field that included fellow Canberra locals Scott Reardon and Cameron Crombie. His effort in winning the Gold Medal in the Javelin was very impressive given his winning throw of 52.96 metres was 4.5 metres further than his previous personal best.

Cameron was named the ‘People’s Sporting Champion’ after winning the Gold Medal in the Shot Put. This award was voted by the Canberra public and Cameron did extremely well in beating a start-studded group of sportsmen and sportswomen.

On behalf of all Athletics ACT members I would like to acknowledge the achievements of Jayden and Cameron who are wonderful ambassadors for our sport of athletics both on and off the field.

Neil Boden

President Athletics ACT
