Last week more than 7,000 athletes converged on the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre for a week long Australian Athletics Championships.
The 7 days of championship events was action packed with many world class performances coming from athletes of all ages. Not to be outdone Athletics ACT athletes were among many of these performances.
With a medal haul of 45 (13 Gold, 18 Silver & 14 Bronze) Athletics ACT had one of its most successful championships in recent times, we should also mention another 9 athletes placed just outside the medals in 4th. There was a large number of top 8 performances and PB results across the week.
Some notable performances included:
- Kelsey-Lee Barber - Open women's Javelin GOLD - 63.33m (World Championship Qualifier)
- Lauren Wells - Open women's 400m Hurdles GOLD - 54.87s (World Championship Qualifier, ACT Record and PB - first time under 55s for Lauren)
- Edward Nketia - Open men's and U20 men's 100m GOLD - 10.22 in open final (10.19 in semi-final)
- Jake Lappin - T54 400m and 1500m wheelchair GOLD
