The Australian Cross Country Championships took place at Moonee Valley Racecourse on Saturday, featuring a strong contingent of runners from the ACT.
ACT Cross Country Champion Josh Johnson performed exceptionally on the national stage taking home the Bronze medal in the Open Men’s event.
Josh was join by Olympian Martin Dent, Jordan Gusman, Hugh Williams, Tim Lefroy and Alan Craigie in the Open Men’s team event where they came away with the Silver medal, narrowly being beaten by the Victorian team by only 1 point.
The Open Men weren’t the only Athletics ACT members to find themselves on the podium at the Australian Championships with athletes also competing for School Sport ACT.
Josh Torley took out the U18 Boys title, leading home a large field of 97 competitors.
Kelly Small was awarded the Silver medal in the U16 Girls event and Eliza Rixon also took home the Silver in the U14 Girls event.

The following day, the Australian Race Walking Championships took place at Albert Park. ACT has shown that it can produce some of Australia’s best Race Walkers and these Championships didn’t disappoint.
Australian U19 development squad member Zoe Hunt showed why she was selected for the squad, taking home the Bronze medal in the U20 10,000m Women’s event.
Gabby Hunt, Zoe’s younger sister, made it a family affair at the Race Walking Championships with Gabby taking home the Gold in the U16 Women’s 5000m event.
Conner Frew put in a strong effort of claim Bronze in the U16 5000m Men’s event but he had strong opposition for the last place on the podium from fellow Athletics ACT members Mitchell Baker and Callum Burns, placing 4th and 5th respectively. All three walkers were within 48 seconds of each other.
