The 2018 Australian Masters Athletics (AMA) Half-Marathon Championships, incorporating the 37th ACT Masters Athletics (ACTMA) Half Marathon, were conducted at Lake Ginninderra on Sunday 19th August.
Cold and windy conditions greeted a small but high quality field of runners from five states of Australia which saw record-breaking times and commendable performances. Lapping the lake three laps of 7kms, 62 athletes competed, assisted by a large group of volunteers and cheered on by a number of hardy spectators.
ACT athlete, Shaun Creighton (M50) was the first men's finisher in a very competitive time of 1 hour, 13 minutes and 34 seconds, with an age-graded percentage of 89.30%. Louisa Abram (W55) travelled from Queensland to be the first woman across the line in an excellent time of 1 hour, 27 minutes and 8 seconds - the highest age-graded percentage of the day at 92.80%. Other impressive age-graded performances were recorded by David Riches (M60) of NSW with 91.10% and Susan Archer (W65) of ACT with 81.9%.
